Behind the Brand
Tuscaloosa, named in honor of chief Tuskaloosa, is split by the Black Warrior River. Chief Tuskaloosa was a paramount chief of the Mississippian chiefdom (what is modern day Alabama). The name Tuskaloosa comes from the Choctaw words "tushka" meaning warrior and "lusa" meaning black.
The arrowhead logo design is in honor of the indigenous tribes that have called Tuscaloosa and the region home. The arrowhead was common for defense and hunting. Our arrowhead design represents the warrior mentality while also representing pride, commitment, community, and dedication.
The curve in the arrowhead is actually the curvature found in coffee beans. It also doubles as a river tying all elements together.
